Bharti Airtel, India’s largest GSM mobile service operator with 136 million subscribers, announced the launch of 3G US Modem (Data Card) priced at Rs.3799 for its postpaid and prepaid customers across India.

However, before you jump with joy, let me make it clear Airtel has not launched 3G services and the above plug and play 3G Data Card can be used for wireless Internet access over Airtel 2G/2.75G GSM services across India.

The Airtel 3G Plug and Play device comes with 1 year replacement warranty. It enables customers to stay connected on-the-go. The device supports EDGE/GPRS as well as UMTS/HSDPA up to 3.6 Mbps speed and compatible with Windows 2000/Windows XP/Windows Vista/ MAC (OS).

Lava Mobiles, an Indian mobile phone maker, has launched a new range of handsets, Lava B5 and Lava B2. They come with a price tag of Rs. 4,399 and Rs. 3,999 respectively. However, the cost is not the catch here. The new Lava phones are the world's first Alpha keypad phones.

Unlike the multi-tap and QWERTY keypads, in the Alpha keypad, the keys are arranged in the alphabetical sequence (ABCDE...). SN Rai, Co-founder and Director, Lava International said, "It took months of rigorous research and consumer trials to conceptualize Alpha Key-pad. We feel Alpha key-pad would further redefine the mobile phone market in a big way."


Lava expects to capture ten percent of the market segment by pitting the Alpha keypad phones against the QWERTY phones.
The phones otherwise have regular features. The Lava B5 comes with a 2.2 inch display, dual SIM enabled, FM radio and memory card support. Connectivity options include Bluetooth and a 3.5 mm headset jack. The Lava B2 is also similarly spec-ed.

However, it remains to be seen if the phones will work their magic or not. With people acquainted with the QWERTY keypad format, it may be little difficult to change the habit that is already formed.

State run GSM Mobile service operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today introduces youth oriented ‘Nestham Plan’ on new 2G GSM Prepaid Connections with Life Time Valid Rent Free Group Calling facility at just Rs.49 for its prospective customers in Andhra Pradesh telecom circle.

BSNL new Life Time Valid Nestham Plan Prepaid Connections is priced at Rs 49 (Rs.20 for SIM Card + Rs.29 for FRC) with talk time of 50 Minutes and 2000 Free Local/National SMS valid for 30 Days.
