India to RIM: Install Server or End Blackberry Services
The Government of India told Research In Motion (RIM) the makers of BlackBerry to install its server in India for tracking its messenger (BBM) and BlackeBerry Enterprise mail service (BES) or close its messenger and mail services.
The Indian security agencies cannot gain access to heavily encrypted corporate email sent on a Black-Berry handset as a result the Home Ministry rejected the RIM’s proposal, saying it was detrimental to country’s security. ###

Reliance Mobile Launches Roaming Facility On Prepaid for North East
Reliance Communications (RCom), India’s single largest Dual Technology (GSM and CDMA) telecom giant today announced that it has launched Roaming services for its more than 2 million prepaid GSM subscribers in the entire North East region.
The call charges will be as low as 1p/sec or 50p/min for Incoming and Outgoing calls made by subscribers while roaming in other state/circle with in North East. Speaking on the launch of Prepaid Roaming services for North East, Khurshed Ahmed, Sr Executive vice President, Reliance Communication Ltd (RCom) said “As part of our endeavour to improve customer service, we are happy to extend the roaming facility to all our prepaid customers in the north-east and I am sure this will ensure hassle free communications while traveling between Assam and other north-eastern states.”

RCom Adds 2.8 Million CDMA and GSM Mobile Subscribers in June

Rcom Hived Off Its Tower Business To GTL Infra
In a bid to reduce debt and investment in GSM/CDMA network up-gradation, Reliance Communications (Rcom), India’s single largest Dual Technology Mobile Service orator hived off its mobile tower business to GTL Infrastructure for Rs 50000 crore ($11 billion).
The boards of the Reliance communication and and GTL Infrastructure (GTL Infra), have approved the transaction. The deal will be implemented through a demerger of Reliance Infratel’s tower assets into GTL Infra.
At present RCom owns 95% of R-Infra, only tower business of R-Infra will be merged with GTL, RCom will retain its optic fibre network and related assets. Reliance Infratel has 50,000 towers and GTL now has 30,000 towers – following the merger the merged entity will will have 80,000 telecom towers, 1.25 lakh tenancies from 10 telecom operators. RCom will be the largest tenant.The other tenants include Aircel, Etisalat DB Telecom, MTS, Uninor Telecom, Videocon Mobile, Tata Teleservices, Vodafone and S Tel. GTL has plan to add 20,000 towers more.
GTL Infrastructure, established in 2004 and part of Global group, is the pioneer in Shared Telecom Infrastructure in India. GTL Infrastructure offers ready to use passive infrastructure to wireless telecom operators.
GTL Infra is in the midst of rolling out a Pan India network of 23,700 towers by 2010/11, and is offering the infrastructure to the leading service providers in India. It is a publicly listed company, and has emerged as the largest independent tower company in India.

Reliance Mobile Intros India’s First ‘Live Chat’ Customer Care Initiative
In a bid to provide Superior customer care experience, Reliance Communications (Rcom), India’s single largest Dual Technology Mobile Service oprator today announced the launch of first-of-its kind Customer Care Initiative ‘Live Chat’.
The Live Chat service will enable Reliance Mobile’s subscribers with real-time query and issue handling through chat-based on-line platform.
According to the announcement by RCom, In the first phase of the launch ‘Live Chat’ will be available to Reliance’s over 1.3 million data customers across the country. Following the implementation of the service across the data business, operator plans to extend the service to other business groups.RCOM has established the Live Chat Contact Center at the company’s headquarter at New Mumbai. This facility will have over 500 dedicated workforce equipped to handle 75,000 live customer interactions in a day.
The launch of Live Chat forms the first step in this customer-oriented focus and enhancing the overall customer experience.The company claims that It is going Live with its Live Chat service across 15,000 towns with a scale-up plan to cover 24,000 towns by end of the first quarter of this fiscal.

Reliance Industries to Acquire Stake in Infotel- Pan India BWA Winner
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire a substantial stake in Infotel Broadband Services (P) Ltd, which has emerged as a successful bidder in all the 22 circles (Pan India) of the auction for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) Spectrum conducted by the DoT.
RIL said that it will invest about Rs 4,800 crore by way of subscription to fresh equity capital at par to be issued by Infotel Broadband. Post this investment, RIL will own 95% of the equity and Infotel Broadband will be a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited.
RIL claims that the broadband opportunity as a new frontier of knowledge economy in which it can take a leadership position and provide India with an opportunity to be in the forefront among the countries providing world-class 4G network and services.
