Tata Teleservices Urges DoT to Put 3G Spectrum Allocation on Hold
Tata Teleservices Limited (TTSL) India’s fastest-growing pan-India dual-technology telecom service provider, which has bagged 3G spectrum in 9 telecom circles for its GSM mobile service brand Tata Docomo wrote a letter to DoT and demanding that The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) put the allocation of 3G spectrum on hold which is scheduled on Sept 1.
According to Tata Teleservices (TTSL) that presently DoT is clearing only equipment imports from the western vendors or permitting sourcing of equipment from particular vendors and not allowing others which is beneficial to GSM-based operator like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular.
TTSL’s GSM arm Tata Docomo’s present 2G network (large part) runs on equipment made in China and with current situation its deployment of the next generation 3G GSM network in 9 telecom circles will be delayed due to the non-clearance of telecom equipment made by Chinese vendors.
Earlier another dual-technology operator and CDMA major Reliance Communication also demands the same. However GSM Lobby oppose this and says Tata Teleservices (TTSL) and Reliance Communications (Rcom) both are already operating 3G services illegally via their EVDO services bradned as Tata Photon Plus and Reliance Net-connect Plus and are now attempting to delay the launch of similar high-end 3G GSM services to stop the competition in wireless data market.
